Lord, what are you going to teach me today? Who are you sending to me? What are their needs? Why are you sending them to me today? What is Your treatment plan? Reflecting upon our desperate plight as mere humans, we will be frightened. The responsibility is too great. We can't do it; only God can do it. We need Him to do for us what He wants done. This will happen only when we acknowledge our neediness, submit to His guidance, and ask for His directions. This scenario causes us to anticipate some useful thoughts. Since we are God's agents,we need to be closely allied to Him. We need to know God 's objectives and goals. We need to see people from God 's perspective. We need to know and work in God 's reality. What are God 's goals and objectives? God created
people for fellowship with Him. (See Isaiah God intended that Abraham's descendants would take the story of God's goodness, love, and mercy to all people in all nations so they could come into fellowship with Him. (See Genesis 12:2,3,18:18;22:17,18; 28:13,14.) God brought Israel out of Egypt to mediate God's goodness to all nations throughout the whole earth so they could come into fellowship with H m. (See Exodus 19:5,6; Deuteronomy 7:6 -9;28:9,10; 2 Samuel 7:23; Psalm 145:9 -13; Isaiah 42:6,7;43:10,12;44:8; 45:5,6;60:2,3; Jeremiah 31:33,34;Ezekiel 36:23,28. ) In His earthly life, Jesus revealed His Father's passion for those who did not know Him. As people came to know God,they sought fellowship with Him.(See John 4:32 -34;14:31;5:17,19,20;17:4; Luke 19:10; Mark 1:37 -39.) Christ commissioned His Church to go into all the world, introducing all people to fellowship with Him. (See Matthew 28:18 -20; Mark 16:15; Luke 24:48; Acts 1:8.) The church responded with a passion. They went to all the known world, calling people to come into fellowship with God. (See 2 Corinthians 5:20; Ephesians 3:8; 6:19, 20; Hebrews 12:1;1 Peter 2:5,9; Romans 15:16; Revelation 5:9,10.) God's plan will be fulfilled! An untold multitude will come into fellowship with God and populate the New Jerusalem.(See Revelation 21:1 -4.) Serving as Gods's Agent As we drive to our office (clinic or hospital), we can meditate on what it means for me to be God's agent called and commissioned to bring those I contact into fellowship with Him.Who is included? Is anybody excluded? Does this include my patients? My staff? My colleagues? Do these thoughts birth additional questions? Now what thoughts should we think? The parking place, the unlocked door, our son's cough, unpaid bills, staff competence, and difficult patients remain significant issues, but no longer are they our highest priority! God gives us new thoughts:Kingdom thoughts; thoughts about His children and His love for them; thoughts about His desires for His children. As we drive into the parking lot, we are content to search for awhile for a parking spot, which happens to be some distance from the entrance. This gives us a few moments to ask God for His guidance and grace that we may faithfully reveal His love and passion for fellowship to each person. Next time
I will discuss seeing people from God's perspective. I am happy to hear your comments and respond to your questions. Contact Dr. Elder at: helder@GoMETS.org. |
