Jeff, a third year medical student, had never shared his faith with anyone. Yet he wanted to learn how. That's why he attended one of our Medical Evangelism Training and Strategies Conference (METS). (Some names have been changed.)

At METS, Jeff heard from our faculty physicians - ordinary men and women who are having extraordinary impacts in the lives of their patients. Jeff heard about the ethical issues of sharing Christ in a clinical setting. He learned to conduct a spiritual history, which fits in nicely with a medical history. He role played tactfully and relevantly broaching spiritual issues with patients. And then he actual went to the hospital to practice talking with patients about a personal relationship with God.

At the hospital, Jeff was paired with the President and Founder of our medical division, a practicing gastroenterologist. Soon, he and Dr. Chen began talking with a pregnant patient. She was most interested in learning more about a personal relationship with God and gave them permission to talk further. Funny thing, Jeff thought the woman looked strangely familiar.

Just as Jeff was about to explain how she could accept Christ into her life, he realized why she looked familiar. Panic set in. She was the chief resident on the service he was about to rotate to. He nearly fainted. Sharing his faith with a stranger was hard enough. How could he, a third year medical student, talk to his chief resident about Christ?

Jeff desperately looked across the bed at Dr. Chen silently saying "HELP!" Well, Dr. Chen is also on the faculty at the School of Medicine and often sees these desperate looks from students. Dr. Chen smiled and stood there, not saying a word. When Jeff saw there would be no "help" forth coming, he swallowed hard and plowed ahead.

Within minutes, this chief resident prayed to receive Christ.

Later, Jeff and Dr. Chen were driving back to the conference site. As the conversation died down, Jeff said in unbelief, "Dr. Chen, she really prayed to receive Christ didn't she?" Dr. Chen assured him she did. A few minutes later, Jeff again said "Dr. Chen, she really prayed to receive Christ didn't she?"

Our ministry is equipping health professionals and students become brighter spiritual lights in their practices. All because lost people matter to God.
