A Health Student Summer Mission Project
Southern California
Outside the Box
by Jessica Reade, School Teacher

I came to the Health Student Summer Mission Project because my husband is a medical student. I am a second grade teacher and know nothing about anything related to medicine. I was excited to be a part of this opportunity, but mainly I viewed it as an opportunity only for my husband. I was merely along for the ride.

Instead, I discovered that this project is not about health care, but about caring for the people who happen to be your patients and sharing with them, the joy of knowing Christ. As a non-medical person, I place all of my trust in doctors when I am in need of care. It is immensely encouraging to know that there are healthcare providers out there who desire to care for me emotionally and spiritually as well. It is amazing to see a new generation of providers desiring to continue this ministry. Who knows... they could be the person God uses to bring one of my family members to Him.

I also discovered that this project is designed to help participants deepen their own faith and dependence on Christ, so that they might be filled and able to serve others. The growth I have witnessed in my own life and in the lives of those around me has been amazing. It has been exhilarating to watch the fire of our passion for Christ grow bigger and brighter with each passing day.

Even though I am not a healthcare provider, I can take so much of what I have learned and apply it to my own profession Everyone needs the love of Christ, and those of us who have found a personal relationship with Him have the special opportunity to share that love with each person we know, no matter what our profession.
